Increased Risk For Diabetes

Someone who is classified as being in this group may be at increased risk of developing diabetes one day. They need to pay more attention to his or her health.

This type of glucose abnormality includes two categories.

1. People with previous abnormality of glucose tolerance (sometimes called prediabetes):
People with this have no sign of abnormal glucose metabolism, but they experienced a period of impaired glucose tolerance or high blood sugar in the past. Women who have had gestational diabetes are usually placed in this group.

2. Potential abnormality of glucose.
People who have a close relative with type-I diabetes or people with islet-cell antibodies are considered part of this group.
